Classic mystery visual novel Higurashi When They Cry is set to receive a new anime adaptation!

Passione will be heading the project, with Monogatari director Watanabe Akio providing character design. Infinite is to produce the series.

Set in 1983, the franchise revolves around the sinister background to a seemingly peaceful rural village and its annual festival. It was first adapted as a TV anime directed by Kon Chiaki in 2006 before inspiring a live action movie and TV drama, as well as several OVAs.
